Well folks, it looks like the party’s over at Nifty Gateway! Gemini has decided to wind down its beloved NFT marketplace as it pivots toward its grand vision of creating a one-stop super app for all your digital needs. Just like that last slice of pizza at a party, it’s going away!
Withdrawal-Only Mode Activated
Starting now, Nifty Gateway is putting up a big neon sign that says “withdrawal-only mode.” Operations will officially cease on February 23rd. If you have some cash, ETH, or NFTs lounging around in your digital wallet, keep an eye on your inbox. They’ll be sending you instructions on how to safely transfer your assets.
Nifty Gateway: The OG Digital Art Hub
Nifty Gateway was the cool kid on the block when it launched in 2020, showcasing exclusive NFT drops from a star-studded cast of digital artists—think Beeple, CryptoKitties, and Pak. They made quite a splash in the digital art universe, and for that, we salute them!
What Happened?
The whole thing started when Gemini stepped in and scooped up Nifty Gateway at the tail end of 2019. Unfortunately, as the NFT trading scene started to cool down, the original founders, Duncan and Griffin Cock Foster, waved goodbye in early 2023 as trading volumes took a nosedive.
What’s Next for Gemini?
Though Nifty Gateway is saying its goodbyes, don’t worry—Gemini’s not completely ditching the NFT world. They’re still going to support NFTs through the Gemini Wallet, which launched back in August 2025. So, if you still want a piece of the digital art pie, there’s still hope!
