NFT Startup Founder Accused of Fund Shenanigans
The Wild Ride of Taj Tarsha
Hold onto your hats, folks! We’ve got a juicy tale about Taj Tarsha, the big cheese behind the NFT startup Few and Far. This guy is currently under the legal microscope for some pretty shifty behavior involving a cool $10 million.
Show Me the Money!
So here’s the scoop: Taj supposedly raised over ten million bucks from at least 67 unsuspecting investors back in early 2022. They thought they were helping to build the next big NFT marketplace. Instead, it seems like Taj had a different kind of building in mind—like casino chips and flashy DJ gear!
A House of Cards?
According to the feds, soon after the funding closed, our hero started using the investors’ cash on personal pleasures rather than pixelated marketplaces. With glitzy plans for future tokens called FAR (which the investors thought would be their ticket to the NFT dream), it turns out that the only thing that was getting rich was Taj’s lifestyle. Can we say major plot twist?
The Great Cover-Up
So how did they catch him red-handed, you ask? Well, a little birdie (a.k.a. an audit) came along in June 2023 and revealed that Taj was pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes. He was busy telling his investors that bonuses were linked to project milestones while the reality was he had let most of his team go. All while trying to keep up the charade that his marketplace was up and running. A true magician!
Luxury and Lattes
This guy even splurged on a snazzy loan for a condo in Miami—talk about living the high life! From fancy interior design jobs to funding his DJ gigs, it seems like Taj’s definition of ‘investing’ was a bit skewed. Not exactly the return on investment his backers were looking for!
A Token Gone Bad
As for the FAR token? Well, it launched in May 2024, only to quickly end up in the digital dumpster, effectively worthless and snuffing out any trading hopes. Ouch! That’s gotta hurt.
The Long Arm of the Law
On June 6, Taj was arrested and now faces the music with charges that could keep him behind bars for a whopping 20 years. Yikes! The case is in the hands of U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, and all we can do is sit back, grab the popcorn, and watch this saga unfold.
What’s Next?
Even CoinDesk tried reaching out to our would-be superstar for a comment, but as of publication time, Taj was mysteriously silent. I guess he’s busy figuring out his next move!
